Gudrun emigrated on 11 November 1896, at the age of 15. I cannot fathom how brave she must have been, or maybe just how desperate she was. Women had no rights back then, and the oldest son inherited everything in the family. If your family did not have money then you may have had to be a servant and could not own your own home like we can in America.
My great grandmother boarding a ship and leaving her homeland during the dead of winter must have been a really brave or desperate action. She must have been a very strong woman. I never got the privilege of knowing her, because she passed away years before I was born.
Gudrun passed away after gall bladder surgery when a blood clot traveled to her brain and killed her. In those days they did not use stockings to protect against blood clots.
She emigrated as a governess to the Glenn W. Traer family in Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Gudrun "Gud" married Edward "Edy" Francis Linderman on 11 September 1902 in Winona, Winona, Minnesota, USA. They were very much in love. After she passed, my great grandfather never remarried.
Birth: 22 August 1881 in Namsos, Hordaland fylke, Norway
My maternal 1st. great grandmother was the daughter of Daniel Olaus Lund and Serine Kristine Olsen of Norway. I did not find proof of her parents until January 2019, thanks to the kindness of a Norwegian lady named Bente Kooter Laading, on the Geni.com genealogy website.
I will be forever grateful to her.
